Electrolux sued by insurer for home fire allegedly caused by dryer

GRETNA – An international electrical appliance manufacturer is being sued by a home insurer for an alleged product failure that resulted in a home fire.

State Farm Fire and Casualty Company, as a real party in interest and subrogee of Nathan Andrus, filed suit against Electrolux Home Products, Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Aug. 24. State Farm claims that a fire occurred at Andrus' residence due to a dryer designed and manufactured by Electrolux. The plaintiff alleges the fire was caused by defects existing in the dryer and resulted in serious damage to the defendant's home.

The defendant is accused of providing a product that is dangerous in construction and composition, providing a product that is dangerous in design and providing an adequate warning about a dangerous product.

Damages are sought in the amount of $34,195.60, plus the $773 deductible paid by Andrus.

State Farm is represented by Baton Rouge-based W. Ransom Pipes of Hannah, Colvin & Pipes. LLP.

The case has been assigned to Division J Judge Stephen J. Windhorst.
