Welder injured in fall through manhole sues employer for injuries

Loaded barges at night.

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish man is suing a marine transportation company that formerly employed him for injuries he received while on the job.

Margarito Rodriguez filed suit against Florida Marine, LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 3. Rodriguez claims he was working for Florida Marine on the deck on one of their barges when he fell through an uncovered manhole and sustained personal injuries to his wrist, back and knee, which required surgery.

The defendant is accused of failing to provide proper lighting on the barge, failing to provide a safe work environment, failing to ensure the manhole was not left uncovered and failing to rope off the manhole.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for personal injuries, medical bills, physical pain and suffering, mental pain and anguish and lost wages.

Rodriguez is represented by New Orleans-based attorney Sean P. Early.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.

Case no. 719-745.
