GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is suing the local sheriff's office and deputy who allegedly is at fault for an accident in which the two were involved.
Rosie Taylor filed suit against Newell Normand, Jefferson Parish Sheriff in his official capacity and Mark Monson in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 9.
Taylor says she was driving on Destrehan Avenue in Jefferson Parish when Monson in a Sheriff's vehicle tried an improper U-turn and collided with her vehicle. The plaintiff alleges that the incident was avoidable and that she received serious injuries in the collision to her left knee, left shoulder, neck and back.
The defendant is accused of striking the plaintiff's car in its proper lane of travel, failing to maintain its vehicle in a single lane in violation of state law, failing to give visual identification of intent to change lanes, failing to give audible warning when the accident was imminent, carelessly operating a vehicle, failing to matinain reasonable control of the vehicle, failing to see what should have been seen and operating the vehicle at excessive speed.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental anguish, physical suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and other reasonable damages.

The case has been assigned to Division Judge Patrick J. McCabe
