Podiatrist sued by patient for allegedly performing unnecessary surgery

Dr. Denardo Dunham

GRETNA – A Westwego woman is suing a foot doctor for allegedly performing unnecessary and improper surgery on her feet that resulted in serious injury.

Betty Cantrelle filed suit against Premier Foot Specialists, LLC and Denardo D. Dunham, DPM in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 22.

Cantrelle claims that she was under the care of Dunham and underwent surgeries on her foot in August and October 2009. The plaintiff alleges that the defendant told her it would take some time for her feet to heal after the surgeries and she continued treatment with the doctor until January 2011 when she was informed she was no longer to be treated by him. Dunham asserts that she found that Dunham had left the state and when she came under the care of a new doctor he found the foot surgeries were improperly performed and had left both of her feet in terrible shape, which required further correction.

The defendant is accused of performing unnecessary surgeries on both feet and failing to properly treat the plaintiffs feet and allow them to heal properly.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and anguish, medical expenses, loss of wages and loss of earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life and permanent disability and impairment.

Cantrelle is represented by attorney Joel A. Levy of Marrero.

The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darensburg.

Case no. 720-388.
