GRETNA – A dredging company and a contractor are being sued by a man allegedly injured in a boat accident.

Keith Trosclair, and his wife Torey, filed suit against Great Southern Dredging, Inc. and L&A Contracting Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 23.

Trosclair claims Great Southern Dredging, Inc. and L&A Contracting Company drove iron beams into the floor of Bayou Perot in the area where numerous vessels and barges where carrying loads of rock for a shoreline stabilization project. The plaintiff alleges that the defendants broke one of the iron beams and left it submerged under the water where it could not be seen instead of removing it from the area.

Trosclair also asserts he was traveling in a boat named M/V Miss Diane in Bayou Perot when it was impaled on the broken beam and began to take on water and put the lives of those on board in peril. The plaintiff claims he received numerous injuries in the accident to his neck, back, knee, hips and other areas of his body.

The defendant is accused of failing to properly install iron channel beams, intentionally allowing the beams to remain in a navigable waterway and failing to remove the same number of iron channel beams being driven into Bayou Perot to ensure public safety.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental pain and suffering, physical pain and suffering, medical expenses, future inconvenience, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life, permanent disability and loss of consortium and companionship.

Trosclair is represented by Anthony D. Irpino of the New Orleans-based Irpino Law Firm.

The case has been assigned to Division E Judge John J. Molaison, Jr.

Case no. 720-425.
