GRETNA – A St. Tammany man is suing his former employer for injuries he allegedly received aboard a vessel.
Edward Molero filed suit against Odebrecht Construction, Inc. and Odebrecht-Johnson Bros. J.V. in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 25. Molero is bringing a Jones Act claim against Odebrecht Construction after he was using a magnetic drill on a vessel and his glove got snagged by the drill pulling his hand into it and injuring it. The plaintiff alleges that his injuries are related to the negligence of the defendant and the unseaworthiness of the vessel.
The defendant is accused of failing to exercise reasonable care at a work place, failing to provide safe working conditions, failing to provide safe tools and equipment, failing to exercise reasonable care to protect the plaintiff from a knowable risk of harm, requiring the plaintiff to work under conditions the defendants should have known presented an unreasonable risk of harm and failing to provide a safe crew.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, disfigurement, mental pain and suffering, loss of wages, loss of earning capacity and medical expenses.
