GRETNA – A husband and wife are suing a local construction company in separate cases in which they were allegedly injured in falls at their home when it was being elevated.

Hester Johnson and Lloyd Johnson filed lawsuits against Lockett Construction Company Inc. and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 14. Both Hester and Lloyd claimed to have been injured in falls at their home located at 3216 Nature Drive in Marrero on March 1, 2012.

First, Hester alleges at 9:15 a.m. she was going down concrete steps at the couple’s home when she fell and struck the back of her head against the steps. At 1:30 p.m. Lloyd also claims to have fallen and hit the back of his head on a makeshift wooden ramp that did not meet Jefferson Parish building standards.

The defendant is accused of failing to construct safe walkways at the Johnsons’ home, failing to warn of unsafe conditions, maintaining condition the defendant should have known were unnecessarily and inherently dangerous, permitting unsafe conditions to exist when they should have known of the potential or probable danger to the plaintiffs and failing to build and install unsafe walkways at the Johnson home.

Both Hester and Lloyd are seeking unspecified amounts in damages for physical pain and suffering.

Attorney Steven M. Koenig of New Orleans-based Valteau, Harris, Koenig & Mayer is representing the plaintiffs in both cases.

Hester Johnson’s case has been assigned to Division E John J. Molaison Jr.

Lloyd Johnson’s case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.

Case nos. 723-810 and 723-811.
