Rouses

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish man who was fired from his job after being charged with disturbing the peace, a charge which was later dropped, is suing.

Bryan Braniff filed suit against Ryan C. Skaggs Sr., Skaggs Enterprises and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on March. 14.

Braniff claims he was delivering bread as an employee of Earthgrain Baking Company Inc. at the Rouses located at 717 S. Clearview in Metairie when Skaggs began cursing at and shoving him. The plaintiff alleges he protected himself and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene which issued disturbing the peace summonses to both men.

Braniff asserts he lost his job due to the incident even though the charges against him were later refused by the District Attorney’s Office and Skaggs was charged with solely in the incident due to eyewitness statements.

The defendant is accused of being the aggressor in the altercation, causing the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office to be called to the scene and having a summons issued against the plaintiff.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental anguish, wage loss, loss of earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life, inconvenience, loss of reputation and pecuniary loss.

Braniff is represented by attorney John J. Lee Jr. of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division G Judge Robert A. Pitre Jr.

Case no. 724-875.
