Charlie’s Seafood sues landlord for allegedly terminating lease

GRETNA – A historic Harahan restaurant that has gone out of business is suing its former landlord for allegedly breaching a rental contract.

F&M Charlie’s filed suit against Danna A. Doucet and Rene Orgeron Doucet in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 1.

F&M Charlie’s, owners of Harahan restaurant Charlie’s Seafood, claim on June 1, 2009 they signed a three-year lease agreement for $3,325 per month with bi-annual adjustments for cost of living for a commercial property owned by the Doucets located at 8311 Jefferson Hwy. in Harahan.

The plaintiffs allege that the agreement was to be automatically renewed for an additional three years in June 2012. F&M Charlie’s asserts that on Feb. 22, 2013 the Doucets sold the property for $5,000 to Charles Investment Property LLC, which is believed to be owned by Patrick Peppo who is a friend of the Doucets. The plaintiff claims that at no time was the property listed for sale. F&M Charlie’s alleges that on Feb. 28 they received a notice that their contract would be terminated unless they agreed to a significant increase in the monthly rent payment.

The defendant is accused of intentional interference with a contract.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for declaratory relief.

F&M Charlie’s is represented by Kyle Schonekas of New Orleans-based Schonekas, Winsberg, Evans & McGoey LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.
