Southern University Law School alums to receive prestigious honor

BATON ROUGE – Two alums from Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge are to be honored on the Nation’s Best Advocates list at the National Bar Association (NBA) annual conference in July.

Lacy L. Durham, tax manager at Deloitte Tax LLP, and District 101 Louisiana House of Representatives Rep. Edward “Ted” James II (D-Baton Rouge) will be honored among the “Nation’s Best Advocates: 40 Lawyers Under 40.′′ Both are 2006 graduates of Southern University Law Center.

Durham and James will be honored at a special awards gala on Saturday, July 27 at the NBA’s 88th Annual Convention in Miami, Fla.

“We look forward to honoring these awardees during our 88th Annual Convention in Miami and most importantly, we look forward to sustaining our mission of service and ensuring that justice is achieved by all,” NBA President John Page said.

The annual list recognizes individuals within the African-American legal community who are 40 and younger and have achieved prominence and distinction, both professionally and philanthropically. Attributes such as achievement, innovation, vision, leadership and legal community involvement were taken into account when selecting nominees.

IMPACT, a Washington, D.C.-based organization directed at young professionals of color, has honored the Nation’s Best Advocates in cooperation with the NBA since 2010.

“The invaluable contributions made by these attorneys establish a standard for service and excellence in our communities and our Nation,” IMPACT Director Angela Rye said.
