NEW ORLEANS - The owner of a New Orleans residential property is suing a local contractor for accepting $84,000 for work that was allegedly not completed.

Keidra Phillips-Burell filed suit against Tommie J. Johnson, owner of Show-Me Quality Construction, Hanover Insurance Company and an unknown insurer in the Orleans Parish Central District Court on May 1.

On Jan. 23, 2012, Tommie J. Johnson entered into a contract to complete an interior and exterior renovation of Phillips-Burell’s residential building located at 2439 General Taylor St. in New Orleans. Phillips-Burell's plan was to convert the building into three income-producing fully functioning two bedroom, one bathroom apartments. The total payment for the work was to be paid in four installments, finally totaling $112,8000. After making three payments totaling $84,000, Phillips-Burell found none of the work had been completed and further claims Johnson used the money to buy materials for other projects.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract. Damages in the amount of $84,000 plus any attorney’s fees and legal costs are sought by the plaintiff.

Phillips-Burell is represented by Janis W. Lemle of the New Orleans-based Carter Law Group LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division H Judge Michael G. Bagneris.

Case No. 2013-04124.
