GRETNA – A fitness center is being sued by a man who was allegedly injured when a strap connected to a piece of equipment he was using failed.

Ulrik Johansen filed suit against JRG Fitness Operations LLC, Snap Fitness and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Nov. 12.

Johansen claims that he was exercising at the Snap Fitness at 3700 Lapalco in Harvey when a strap on the piece of equipment he was using broke and he was struck in the head. The plaintiff asserts that the incident caused him to fall to the ground causing injuries to his wrist and resulting in disability.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain equipment, failing to warn petitioner, failing to correct an otherwise dangerous and unsafe condition, failing to perform reasonable and timely inspections, failing to properly replace worn equipment elements and failing to follow manufacturer’s maintenance instructions.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for severe physical pain, mental pain, injuries, mental anguish, physical disability, loss of use of body function, likelihood of surgical intervention, medical expenses and impairment of earning capacity.

Johansen is represented by attorney Wayne E. Garrett of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.

Case no. 732-810.
