Applebees sued by woman who was allegedly injured in trip and fall on ‘bunched’ carpet

GRETNA – A restaurant chain is being sued by a woman who claims she was injured after tripping and falling on a bunched up carpet.

Barbara Smith, and husband Willie, filed suit against Southern River Restaurants LLC and Corepointe Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 19.

Smith claims she was eating with her husband at the Applebee’s located on Veterans Boulevard in Metairie on Jan. 1, 2013 when she was leaving the ladies' room and tripped on a carpet and fell to the floor.

The defendant is accused of creating a tripping hazard.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for medical bills, physical pain and suffering, mental pain and anguish, loss of enjoyment of life and disability.

Smith is represented by attorney Robert L. Manard of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.

Case no. 733-996.
