GRETNA – A local casino is being sued by a customer who claims that only after she slipped and fell in standing water in the restroom an employee placed a wet floor sign in the area.
Sylvis M. Cook filed suit against Treasure Chest Casino LLC, an unknown employee and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 19.
Cook alleges she was a customer at the Treasure Chest Casino on March 9, 2013 when she when slipped and fell on a wet spot as she was exiting the bathroom where an employee was in the process of cleaning up. The plaintiff asserts that as she lay on the floor the casino employee place a ‘wet floor’ sign in the area before her mother helped her off the floor. Cook claims that Treasure Chest Casino collected evidence from the scene, including her blood sugar level, before allowing her to leave after which she experienced hip and back pain for which she had to seek medical treatment.
The defendant is accused of failing to use reasonable care in cleaning the facility, failing to use reasonable care to keep the premises free of hazards, failing to properly inspect the premises, failing to establish proper procedures for cleaning and inspection and allowing a dangerous substance to remain on the premises.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for prescription medications, physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, medical expenses and loss of enjoyment of life.
