GRETNA – A landlord is being sued by a tenant who claims she was injured in two falls on steps leading into her apartment building.

Tammy Thompson filed suit against Jim Hotard, Jim Hotard Properties LLC and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 26.

Thompson asserts that she was a tenant of Hotard’s and was entering a property owned by Hotard located at 2101 Euclid St. in Gretna when she tripped and fell over un-level steps leading into the premises. The plaintiff claims the steps were known to be defective and had failed an inspection prior to her fall and that after her fall a handyman performed temporary repairs to them, but she fell on them again. Thompson alleges that she was injured in the incidents and subsequently received medical treatment.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the premises, failing to properly warn tenants of possible danger, failing to properly inspect the premises, failing to mark the curbing on the steps, maintaining unreasonably dangerous steps, maintaining steps in violation of state law, failing to properly hire employees and failing to properly train and supervise their employees.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for severe and painful injuries, medical treatment, pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of sleep and medication costs.

Thompson is represented by attorney Jason J. Markey of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division O Judge Ross P. LaDart.
