Budget Saver sued by customer allegedly injured in slip and fall

GRETNA – A local grocery store is being sued by a customer who was injured after slipping in a liquid on the sales floor.

Jane Champagne, and husband Harrison, filed suit against SLFM Inc., Budget Saver and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 18.

Champagne claims she was shopping at the Budget Saver located at 2701 Barataria Blvd. in Marrero when she slipped and fell on a clear liquid on the sales floor. The plaintiff alleges she was severely injured in the incident.

The defendant is accused of failing to inspect and warn of dangerous conditions, failing to timely inspect and clean up liquids, failing to warn customers of the defect, failing to maintain the sales floor, creating and maintaining a dangerous and defective condition and allowing a dangerous condition to exist.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, permanent damage, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, economic damages and loss of consortium.

Champagne is represented by attorney Pierre F. Gaudin of Gretna.

The case has been assigned to Division F Judge Michael P. Mentz.
