Macy’s sued by woman over trip and fall on uneven ground

GRETNA – A woman who claims she was seriously injured in a fall at a local mall is suing.

Dawn Chapman filed suit against Broadwall Management Corporation, Greater Lakeside Causeway Corp., Greater lakeside Corp., U.S. Specialty Insurance Company, Macy’s Inc. and Macy’s Retail Holdings Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 3.

Chapman claims that Sept. 21, 2013 she was shopping at the Macy’s located in Lakeside Mall in Metairie when she was leaving the second level and tripped and fell over uneven ground. The plaintiff asserts she was severely injured in the incident and suffered physical and mental injuries.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain the premises, failing to inspect the premises, failing to set up an adequate inspection and maintenance schedule and failing to warn of a dangerous situation.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of enjoyment of life, humiliation, embarrassment, inconvenience, mental anguish and loss of earning capacity.

Chapman is represented by Jim S. Hall of Jim S. Hall & Associates of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
