COVINGTON – A local woman is suing a Slidell grocery store after allegedly slipping and falling in a clear substance.

Barbara Benoit filed suit against Winn Dixie Stores Inc., Winn Dixie Montgomery Inc. and their insurers in the 22nd Judicial District Court on July 9.

According to the suit, on July 15, 2013, Benoit went to the Winn Dixie to purchase groceries. While in the checkout line, she allegedly attempted to return to the grocery store shelves in order to select another item. As she attempted to relocate to the grocery section, she claims that she slipped and fell in a puddle of clear liquid located in a nearby checkout aisle, landing with “great force” on her right shoulder and buttocks. The plaintiff claims that this fall caused severe, painful and permanent injuries.

The defendant and its employees are accused of failing to properly survey and maintain its premises, failing to follow standard cleanup procedures, failure to warn customers of hazardous conditions and other acts of negligence.

An unspecified amount of damages is sought by the plaintiff for severe physical pain, mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, legal interest and attorneys’ fees.

The plaintiff is represented by Vincent J. Lobello of Slidell-based firm Wynne, Goux and Lobello Attorneys at Law LLC.
