Woman who claims injury in fall out of elevator sues

NEW ORLEANS – A woman who claims she was injured in a fall while exiting an elevator is suing.

Janice Cotton filed suit against Bar Harbor LLC, HSI Mangement Inc., Renaissance Place Apartments and Western World Insurance Co. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on July 23.

Cotton claims on Dec. 26, 2013, she was exiting an elevator, located at 3601 Texas Drive in New Orleans, when she lost her balance and fell in a greasy substance covering the floor, causing alleged severe injuries to her knee.

The plaintiff asserts the aforementioned accident led her to sustain severe and disabling injuries to her knee.

The defendant is accused of failing to adequately access the area where the incident occurred, to properly sanitize said premises and warn of the condition, to warn of this hazardous environment and to use practical applications under the circumstances.

The plaintiff is seeking upward of $50,000 in damages for pain and suffering, mental agony, medical expenses and loss of enjoyment of life.

The plaintiff is represented by A.J. Rebennack of A.J. Rebennack Law Firm.

The case has been assigned to Div. L Judge Kern A. Reese.
