Renewable energy company sued for allegedly not repaying loans

Breach of contract

NEW ORLEANS – A man is suing a renewable energy company he claims he provided with two loans which they did not pay back. Michael Thornton filed suit against Golden Leaf Energy LLC and Calvin Mackie in Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Aug. 5. Thornton claims that on Jan. 13, 2012, Golden Leaf entered into two independent loan agreements with him, borrowing $30,000 at a simple interest rate of 10 percent. On Feb. 17, 2012, Calvin Mackie personally guaranteed to pay back the aforementioned loans, along with attorney fees and court costs should collection efforts be required, the suit says. The plaintiff is seeking the full amount of the loans, together with simple interest at 10 percent, as well as consequential damages, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by attorney Michael W. Tifft. The case has been assigned to Div. L Chief Judge Kern A. Reese. Case no. 2014-07671.
