NEW ORLEANS – A local woman is suing to recover $8,000 because she quit her job when offered a contract employment position in New York, only to have the contract rescinded days later.

Patches Rhode filed suit against Innovation Emergency Management Inc. in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Aug. 11.

Rhode states that beginning Aug. 9, 2013, she was contacted by the defendant regarding an employment opportunity. At the time, she was employed by CSRS Inc., a business located in Baton Rouge; however, she was stationed in the New Orleans branch. Innovation Emergency Management offered her a job in Albany, N.Y. in the same amount as Rhode’s former employer, $104,000 annually.

On Aug. 12, 2013, the plaintiff allegedly came to an agreement with Innovation Emergency Management while still working for CSRS, and immediately resigned from CSRS. On Aug. 16, 2013, Rhode received information that her contract was rescinded from Innovation Emergency Management and upon looking into why she was denied the job, Rhode discovered it was regarding a bad reference.

As a result of the termination of her contract on Aug. 19, 2013 she became unemployed for 30 days, losing precisely $8,000 according to her Innovation Emergency Management agreement, which she seeks to recover.

The plaintiff is represented by attorney Willard J. Brown.

The case has been assigned to Div. M Judge Paulette R Irons.

Case no. 2014-07887.
