GRETNA – The father of a high school basketball player is suing John Ehret High School after his son was allegedly injured in pregame warmups.
Tyrone Myles Sr., individually and as the administrator of the estate of his minor son, filed suit against Jefferson Parish School Board, John Ehret High School and their insurer in the 24th Judicial District Court on Oct. 24.
The plaintiff claims that his son, an Archbishop Shaw High School basketball player, was warming up before a game at John Ehret High School located 4300 Patriot St. in Marrero on Nov. 13, 2013 when he went to make s shot and his left foot slipped out from underneath him and he fell backward on top of his right leg. Myles asserts that before the incident many of the players were remarking about how slippery and worn the basketball court was. The plaintiff contends his son’s right knee cap was fractured, which required surgical intervention to repair.
The defendant is accused of failing maintain the premises in a safe condition, failing to have adequately inspect and maintain the basketball court, maintain and inherently dangerous basketball court, permitting an unsafe condition and failing to warn of a danger.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental pain and suffering, medical expenses and disability.
