NEW ORLEANS – Following an alleged electrical malfunction that caused her to have three fingers severed, a contractor is suing a concrete company and its insurers.
Mirian Mejia Melar filed suit against Concrete Solutions LLC, Ducar Investments LLC, Ducar Real Estate Investment LLC., Charles Carr, Angel Duran and ABC Contractors in the Orleans Parish District Civil Court on Nov. 13, 2014.
The plaintiff asserts that on Dec. 20, 2013, she was cutting wood flooring with a table saw on the premises of a house undergoing construction. She claims that the electricity was subsequently disrupted while she was working, causing her work light to go out and the saw to jerk, resulting in three of her fingers being severed.
Melar accuses the defendants of failing to provide a reasonably safe work place, failing to repair defective condition and equipment and failing to give proper employee supervision.
The plaintiff seeks an unspecified amount in damages for medical expenses, lost wages, physical pain and permanent impairment and loss of enjoyment of life.
The Plaintiff is represented by James E Shields Jr. of Gretna-based Shields Law Firm.
This case has been assigned to Division M Judge Paulette R. Irons.
Case no. 2014 -10903.
