GRETNA – The ex-husband of a woman who claims she is entitled to half-ownership in their former film business is suing after he allegedly tried to forcefully remove her from the company following their divorce.
Jamie Aldridge Akula filed suit against Canon Healthcare LLC/TLHC in the 24th Judicial District Court on Dec. 11.
Akula alleges that she is a co-owner of Canon, with a 50 percent interest, with her former husband Shiva Akula. The plaintiff contends that in addition to being an equal partner in the business she was receiving a salary of $16,667.67 per month and although she has not been assigned any work duties since December 2012 she has been continuously been and willing to perform work duties. Akula also asserts that her ex-husband and business partner attempted to force her out of the business and terminate her employment, but was unsuccessful.
The plaintiff claims that in the divorce proceedings with her ex-husband he was ordered to continue to provide her with a salary as well as access to company vehicles. However, on Dec. 2, 2014 Akula alleges that Canon immediately ceased payment of her monthly salary, insurance benefits and demanded return of company vehicles as well as her home, which was adjacent the previous court order.
The defendant is accused of breach of contract and bad faith.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental anguish, emotional distress, restitution, allocation of profits, wrongful termination of salary, return of motor vehicle and injuctive relief forcing the defendant to comply with the earlier court order.
