Woman sues apartment complex after bathroom floor collapses

NEW ORLEANS  – A New Orleans woman is suing the owners of her apartment complex claiming they ignored her repeated requests to have her bathroom floor examined.

Shanell A. Watkins filed suit against Savoy Place Apartments in Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Nov. 12, 2014.

The plaintiff asserts that she moved into the apartment complex, also known as The Estates, on April 5, 2013, and immediately noticed problems with her floors. Following this, she claims to have notified her landlord. On Sept. 10, 2014, she states that she once again called to report issues with her bathroom floor and received notice that it would be fixed the following day. Later that day she stepped out of her bathroom shower, following which she allegedly suffered ligament tears in her left foot and ankle as well a back injury Because the floor collapsed.

The plaintiff seeks an unspecified amount in damages for pain and suffering, medical bills and loss of income.

The plaintiff is represented by J. Michael Daly Jr., of Metaiire-based Daly LLP.

This case has been assigned to Division L Judge Kern A. Reese.
