Patron of Hampton Inn & Suites files suit after allegedly encountering bed bugs

NEW ORLEANS – A guest of a local hotel claims she became covered in bed bugs while staying there, resulting in permanent scars.

Vicki O’Bannon filed suit against Highpointe Hotel Corporation d/b/a Hampton Inn & Suites New Orleans Convention Center, Highpointe Hospitality Inc. and Travelers Casualty and Surety Company.

O’Bannon alleges she checked into the Hampton Inn & Suites New Orleans Convention Center located at 1201 Convention Center Boulevard in New Orleans on Jan. 12, 2014.

The plaintiff claims she sustained psychological distress and enduring bodily injuries requiring ongoing medical treatment as a result of the incident.

The defendants are accused of failing to inspect the premises, failing to maintain the safety of its guests and residents, failing to contain a hazardous condition, failing to warn of a dangerous condition, failing to rid of the bed bugs, failing to take cautious measures, failing to periodically clean the rooms and failing to properly train its personnel in cleanliness.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages for loss of enjoyment of life, mental anguish, pain and suffering, medical expenses, decline in future income and loss of wages.

The petitioner is represented by Corey M. Oubre of the Law Offices of Corey M. Oubre LLC.

The case has been assigned to Div. N Judge Ethel S. Julien.
