Storage facility sued by customer who claims overhead door fell onto her face

GRETNA – A customer of a storage facility is claiming she has been disabled after a storage unit door fell and struck her in the face, allegedly resulting in serious injuries.

Annie Nicholson filed suit against Extra Space Storage Inc. and Federal Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on Jan. 20.

Nicholson contends that on Jan. 20, 2014 she was a customer at Extra Space Storage Inc. located at 5330 Jefferson Highway in Harahan where an employee was showing her a storage unit. The plaintiff asserts that while looking at the storage unit the overhead door came down and struck her in the face causing her to suffer serious injuries that may need surgery to repair and that she has been consequently disabled.

The defendant is accused of failing to keep doors and property in a safe condition, failing to prevent the plaintiff from suffering harm, failing to warn of danger, failing to properly inspect the property, failing to provide a safe environment, failing to warn of property’s unreasonable risks of harm, failing to implement a proper plan to inspect and remove hazards, failing to provide a hazard free environment, failing to remedy unreasonably dangerous hazards and failing to comply with applicable building codes and regulations.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, aggravation, annoyance, discomfort, mental anguish, aggravation, annoyance, medical expenses, lost wages, proper damage, loss of enjoyment of life, disability and destruction of earning capacity.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.
