Embattled pharmacogenetics firm Renaissance Rx file lawsuit against former employee

Breach of contract

GRETNA – An embattled pharmacogenetics and toxicology firm is suing a former employee for allegedly breaching an employment agreement by using company information for his own business.

UTC Laboratories LLC, commonly known as Renaissance Rx, filed suit against Anthony B. Remington, Synergy Medical LLC and Highline Health LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on Feb. 23.

In the lawsuit, Renaissance Rx claims that in March 2014 Remington was hired as its chief commercial officer and signed an employment agreement which restricted Remington from soliciting customers and employees. According to Renaissance Rx, Remington misused company materials provided to him as part of his employment, including client lists, personnel lists, marketing materials and financial data, for his own purposes and in direct violation of his employment contract.

Of note, Renaissance Rx restructured its business and saw numerous layoffs as well as a steep decline in revenues late last year.

Remington has been accused of breach of contract by Renaissance Rx.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought by the plaintiff.

Renaissance Rx is represented by Steven F. Griffith of New Orleans-based Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.

Case no. 746-984.
