Broken foundation 1313438837

GRETNA – A Marrero homeowner is suing Jefferson Parish claiming street repairs in front of her home for the past seven years have resulted in significant property damage, including a collapsed foundation.

Christine Legrand Delatte filed suit against Parish of Jefferson in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 1.

Delatte asserts that since 2007 she has had continuous problems with Jefferson Parish performing street repairs in front of her home located at 4204 North Woodlawn Drive in Marrero. The plaintiff claims that through the years her driveway has had to be replaced four times due to damages caused the street work undertaken by the defendant. In addition, Delatte alleges a water main in the street burst causing water to travel into the soil underneath her home, thus weakening and damaging her home’s foundation and driveway.

She claims that as a result, her home's foundation partially collapsed.

The defendant is accused of property damage, failing to properly administer street repairs, failing to control the water main, failing to supervise and bring in qualified personnel over the past seven years and knowing about the potential consequential damages caused by their work.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for the cost of repairs.

Delatte is represented by Joseph “Joey” LaHatte III of the Metairie-based LaHatte Law Firm LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division L Judge Donald A. Rowan Jr.

Case no. 748-316.
