GRETNA – A woman is claiming permanent disability and suing a local apartment complex and a security guard she claims ran her over with a golf cart.

Brenda Brooks filed suit against State Farm Fire and Casualty Company, Bou-Mikael Enterprises Inc. and Derrick Bryant in the 24th Judicial District Court on April 7.

Brooks alleges that on April 12, 2014 she was walking in the parking lot of the Westward Apartments, which is owned and operated by Bou-Mikael Enterprises, located at 341 Clemson St. in Kenner when Bryant, who was working as a security guard on the premises drove a golf cart into her. The plaintiff contends she fell to the pavement because of the collision and received several injuries including a strained back, ruptured discs in her spine, abrasions and bruises and suffered from dizziness, headaches, emotional upset and distress as a result.

The defendant is accused of failing to operate the golf cart in a safe and sound manner, negligence, inattention and gross carelessness.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for physical pain and suffering, permanent disability, emotional upset, emotional distress, mental anguish, medical expenses, doctor bills, hospital expenses and loss of enjoyment of life.

Brooks is represented by attorney Michael I. Rodriguez Sr. of New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
