Motorist sued for allegedly running over, seriously injuring pedestrian

GRETNA – A pedestrian who claims she was run over by a car backing up in a parking lot is suing.

Debbie Ross filed suit against Geico General Insurance Company in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 11.

Ross claims that on May 13, 2014 she was walking across a private parking lot located at 7929 Airline Drive in Metairie when Ard was backing up in her 2005 Honda Civic, colliding with her. The plaintiff alleges she received severe injuries to her neck, back and extremities in the incident.

The defendant is accused of violating state law, backing up a vehicle in a negligent manner, failing to maintain a reasonable and proper distance, operating the vehicle in a negligent manner and failing to see what should have been seen.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental anguish, physical suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, medical care expenses, loss of earnings, impaired earning capacity and economic loss.

Ross is represented by Sophia J. Johnson of New Orleans-based Morris Bart LLC.

The case has been assigned to Division P Judge Lee V. Faulkner Jr.
