GRETNA – A patient who received breast implant corrective surgery is suing her doctor claiming he left a bottle cap in her breast that caused complications.
Georgia Marelo, and husband Julius, filed suit against Christopher Babycos M.D., Ochsner Clinic Foundation and their insurers in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 26.
Marelo asserts on Nov. 25, 2008 Babycos performed a mastectomy surgery to correct her breast implants. The plaintiff claims that the new breast implants Babycos placed in her caused a reaction and had to be removed.
On May 17, 2010 Marelo alleges Babycos implanted expanders in her breast and it caused an infection and had to be removed. On July 14, 2010 a physician assistant implanted a tissue expander in her breast and discovered a plastic cap had been left in her breast during the previous surgeries performed by Babycos.
The defendant is accused of medical malpractice.
An unspecified amount in damages is sought for mental pain and suffering, emotional anguish, anxiety, distress, physical pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses and out-of pocket expenses.
The Marelos are represented by attorney Peggy Gonsoulin Vallejo of Covington.
The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.
Case no. 750-039.
