East Jefferson General Hospital sued over ambulance driver accident

Eastjeff

GRETNA – A car insurer is suing a local hospital and an ambulance driver who allegedly ran a red light and totaled a vehicle.

State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, as a partial subrogee of James Langford, filed suit against Jason Bergeron, Jefferson Parish Hospital Service District No. 2, Parish of Jefferson, State of Louisiana and East Jefferson General Hospital in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 23.

State Farm alleges that its customer, Langford, was driving his 2013 Nissan Titan truck on Veterans Boulevard in Metairie when an ambulance owned by East Jefferson General Hospital and driven by Bergeron ran a red light and collided with his vehicle. The plaintiff contends that Langford’s truck suffered extensive damage and was deemed a total loss. State Farm asserts that it paid Langford the actual cash value for his truck.

The defendant is accused of failing to maintain a proper lookout, failing to see what should have been seen, failing to obey rules of the road and disregarding a traffic signal.

An unspecified amount in damages is sought for all amounts paid under the insurance policy and Langford’s deductible costs.

State Farm is represented by attorney James E. Broulliette of Metairie.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Nancy A. Miller.

Case no. 750-914.
