GRETNA – A crane service is suing its insurer claiming it vastly undervalued the a crane that had been destroyed.

B&G Crane Service LLC filed suit against Seneca Insurance Company Inc. in the 24th Judicial District Court on July 8.

B&G Crane Service contends it owned a 2002 Liebherr LTM 1200/1 Truck Crane that was covered under an insurance policy provided by Seneca Insurance Company Inc. The suit says that on April 17, 2014 it was involved in an accident and completely destroyed. The plaintiff asserts that although the crane was determined to be a total loss, the defendant only offered $769,000 for the value of the crane. B&G Crane Service claims the actual value of the crane was $1.65 million and the offer made by Seneca Insurance Company Inc. fell far below the actual replacement value of the crane. In addition, the plaintiff alleges it had to divert a crane from another job after the accident and give up a contract worth $100,000 in profits as a result.

The defendant is accused of breach of contract.

Damages are sought by the plaintiff for replacement costs and lost income.

B&G Crane Service is represented by Frderick W. Bradley of Metairie-based Gauthier, Houghtaling and Williams.

The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Scott U. Schlegel.

Case no. 751-353.
