Two Amelia towing businesses are suing two energy companies, alleging lack of payment for services provided.

Smith Marine and KJS Towing filed a recent lawsuit in U.S. District Court Eastern District of Louisiana against EPL Oil & Gas and Energy XXI Gom.

Smith Marine provides marine towing equipment and towing services for the oil and gas industry and operates a fleet of vehicles, one of which is owned by KJS Towing.

According to the complaint, between Oct. 16-Nov. 6, 2014, Smith provided towing services along with equipment—owned by KJS Towing--and labor to assist with oil and gas wells owned, operated or leased by the defendants. The suit says the plaintiffs submitted a bill for $141,375 in connection with this work but $77,187 of that invoice remains unpaid.

Smith Marine and KJS Towing seek payment of the former amount, plus interest, court costs and attorney fees. They are represented by attorneys Norman Sullivan Jr. and W. Jacob Gardner Jr. of Fowler Rodriguez in New Orleans.
