NEW ORLEANS – An Abbeville man says the injuries he suffered as a crew member aboard the marine vessel Lewis Boys have left him unable to work.

Antonio Noel filed a lawsuit Jan. 5 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Louisiana Bait Products LLC and Omega Protein Inc., alleging negligence and failure to maintain safe working conditions.

According to the complaint, Noel served as a crew member aboard the Lewis Boys, a vessel owned and operated by Louisiana Bait Products. On Sept. 3 the crew of the Lewis Boys was pumping fish into the marine vessel The Atchefalaya Bay, a boat owned by Omega Protein. At that time, the Lewis Boys’ captain pulled up his net, allegedly catching Noel’s leg and lifting him in the air, tearing a knee ligament, herniating a vertebral disk and aggravating a previous disk injury.

Noel seeks punitive damages plus interest and court costs. He is represented by New Orleans attorney John L. Young.
