Wheelchair-bound shopper claims Mandeville shopping center in violation of ADA

NEW ORLEANS – A St. Tammany Parish woman is suing a Mandeville shopping center over allegations it offers limited access to those with disabilities.

Yadi Mark filed a lawsuit Jan. 20 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Pontchartrain Square Northshore LLC, alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, the defendant’s shopping center at 3555 Highway 190 in Mandeville contains curb ramps that are too high and lack the required edge protection, is missing signage on handicapped-designated parking spaces, and has an impenetrably high cross slope at the property’s promenade area. Mark lives nearby and visits the center often, the suit says, but has great difficulty accessing its features.

Mark seeks a declaratory judgment that the property violates the ADA, an order to bring the property into compliance and attorney’s fees. She is represented by attorneys Andrew D. Bizer, Garret S. DeReus and Amanda K. Klevorn of The Bizer Law Firm in New Orleans.
