Rig worker blames Moncla Marine for injuries caused by allegedly faulty equipment

Pipefitter tongs

LAFAYETTE – An East Baton Rouge Parish man says his employer, Moncla Marine, is liable for injuries he allegedly suffered while working aboard one of its rigs.

David Mullins filed a lawsuit Jan. 26 in U.S. District Court for the Lafayette-Opelousas Division of the Western District of Louisiana against Moncla Marine Operations, alleging negligence and creation of a hazardous work environment.

According to the complaint, Mullins served as a floorhand aboard the rig The Sac-a-Lait in the Gulf of Mexico. During a Dec. 17, 2013, incident, the suit says the hydraulic tongs he was using to lay pipe jerked, causing him serious injuries. Mullins claims the tongs leaked fluid and were in poor condition, allegedly as a result of Moncla Marine’s negligence.

Mullins seeks compensation for physical pain and suffering and emotional distress, disability, lost wages, reduced earning capacity and other damages. He is represented by attorney Kevin R. Duck of the Duck Law Firm LLC in Lafayette.
