Car accident 18

NEW ORLEANS — An Orleans Parish woman is suing the U.S. Postal Service, through the U. S. government, alleging a government employee caused a vehicle crash.

Daphne Johnson filed a lawsuit April 14, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against United States of America, the U.S. Postal Service and employee Tara Taylor, alleging breach of duty and negligence and violating the Federal Torts Claims Act provisions.

According to the complaint, on Nov. 18, 2014, while Johnson was driving a 2010 Nissan Murano in New Orleans, she was struck by a vehicle driven by Tara Taylor, working as an employee of the U.S. Postal Service. The plaintiff alleges Taylor failed to yield, carelessly operated the vehicle, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to obey applicable traffic laws.

The plaintiff says she sustained pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost wages and loss of enjoyment of life.

Johnson seeks a trial by jury, damages of more than $1.5 million, pre-judgment and post-judgment interest, reasonable attorney fees, costs, and all general and equitable relief allowed by the court. She is represented by attorneys Edwin M. Shorty Jr. and Nathan M. Chiantella of Edwin Shorty Jr. & Associates in New Orleans, and Hope L. Harper of H.L. Harper & Associates in New Orleans.
