NEW ORLEANS — An integrated energy company is suing a fleet and barge owner, alleging negligence caused a collision on Lake Pontchartrain that damaged the plaintiff's property.
Entergy Louisiana LLC filed a lawsuit April 14 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Bertucci Contracting Company LLC, alleging the fleet and barge owner failed to properly and adequately moor its barges on Lake Pontchartrain.
According to the complaint, on May 26, 2015, an collision occurred on Lake Pontchartrain when four Bertucci barges broke free and rammed into an Entergy transmission tower, causing extensive damage. The plaintiff alleges Bertucci failed to properly secure, maintain and equip its barges.
Entergy Louisiana seeks a trial by jury, compensation for all damages, plus interest, attorney fees, costs and other relief as justice requires. It is represented by attorneys Thomas Kent Morrison and Meredith W. Blanque of Phelps Dubarr LLP in New Orleans.
