BATON ROUGE — A guardian and estate administrators are suing an East Baton Rouge man alleging unjust enrichment of $500,000.

Gillian Beebe, as guardian for the minor children William P. Newman and Ginger B. Newman and as administrator of the estate of Lauren Beebe, and Joseph A. Cipparone as administrator of the estate of Billy Wayne Newman, filed a lawsuit April 29 in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana against Todd Hines alleging violation of the automatic orders of the Connecticut Superior Court.

According to the complaint, Gillian Beebe did not receive life insurance proceeds payable on the life of Billy Wayne Newman. The plaintiffs allege Hines is responsible because because Newman changed the beneficiary of his life insurance policy from Lauren Beebe to Hines and also changed title of a 2007 van from that of Lauren Beebe to himself and left it with Hines.

On Nov. 25, 2015, after having unlawfully changed his beneficiary, the suit says, Newman shot and killed his wife at their Connecticut home and then took his own life. On Dec. 14, 2015, Hines allegedly filed a claim for the $500,000 death benefits. On Jan. 16, 2016, the suit alleges, the insurance company sent Hines a check for  $502,301.37.

Gillian Beebe and Joseph Cipparone seek a trial by jury and sequestration of the death benefit proceeds payable on the life of Billy Wayne Newman that were improperly obtained by Hines. They are represented by attorneys L.J. Hymel, Michael Davis and Timothy W. Cerniglia of Hymel Davis & Petersen LLC in Baton Rouge.
