Law money 09

NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. government alleges a New Orleans resident has defaulted on a loan.

United States of America filed a complaint on May 2 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against Marie Prophete alleging that the New Orleans resident allegedly failed to comply with the terms of the Loan Authorization and Agreement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 28, 2006, the defendant signed a United States Small Business Administration document in the amount of $17,500, with installment payments of $75 monthly, beginning 12 months from May 17, 2006. The suit states the loan was for the repair or replacement of property damaged by Hurricane Katrina. The plaintiff holds Prophete responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to make her monthly payments.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for the total unpaid amount of $8,875.34, costs of these proceedings, post-judgment interest and any further relief as the court may deem proper. It is represented by Kenneth Allen Polite Jr. and Peter M. Mansfield, U.S. attorney in New Orleans.
