Companies allege property was damaged during shipment

Contract 06

NEW ORLEANS – A Houston corporation and a Singapore corporation allege that a shipment of theirs was damaged in transport from Malaysia to New Orleans.

Vantage Deepwater Drilling Inc. and Vantage International Management Co. PTE LTD filed a complaint on May 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana against the vessel Pac Antares, Antares Maritime PTE LTD, Pacific Carriers LTD, Paccship UK LTD and PACC Container Line PTE LTD breach of contract and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that they have been damaged in the sum of $3,000,000, with costs and interest from May 19, 2015. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly disregarded their respective duties and obligations to keep and provide for the proper safety of the shipment; failed to provide suitable and safe environment for the stowage, storage and handling of the cargo; and failed to discover that the level and nature of the services provided was inaccurate or incomplete or false or misleading.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against defendants for compensatory damages, attorney's fees and expenses and for such other and further relief as to the court may seem just and proper. They are represented by Miles C. Thomas of Lugenbuhl, Wheaton, Peck, Rankin & Hubbard in New Orleans.
