Woman alleges candy shelf fell and injured her at Dollar Tree

GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish woman is seeking damages following an incident in which a candy shelf allegedly fell on her in a Dollar Tree.

Lareacha Perkins-Smith filed a suit against Dollar Tree Store Inc., doing business as Dollar Tree, in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 26.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was a customer of the Dollar Tree located at 800 S. Clearview Parkway in Harahan on June 6, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that while in the store, the plaintiff was reaching for candy on a shelf when the shelf unexpectedly fell on her, causing her injuries.

The defendant is accused of negligence in failure to maintain the premises in a safe manner, failure to take the necessary steps to prevent injuries and overall failure to warn the customers of the present dangers.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Edward J. Womac Jr. and Matthew Sutton of the Law Offices of Edward J. Womac Jr. & Associates in New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division B Judge Cornelius E. Regan.
