St. Bernard Parish woman claims she was injured by open drain

GRETNA – A St. Bernard Parish woman is seeking damages after she was allegedly caused injuries when her leg entered into an unmarked open drain.

Jean Riley filed a suit against the Parish of Jefferson; Jefferson Parish Hospital Service District No. 2 Parish of Jefferson; state of Louisiana, doing business as East Jefferson General Hospital; Jefferson Radiation Oncology LLC; and XYZ Insurance Co. in the 24th Judicial District Court on May 27.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was walking to the Yenni Lot at the property of 3800 Houma Blvd. in Metairie on June 11, 2015, when the incident occurred. The suit states that the plaintiff was caused injury when her leg entered an unmarked and open drain.

The defendants are accused of negligence through failure to maintain safe premises, failure to warn of the dangerous situation and other acts of negligence.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. She is represented by Edward J. Womac and Matthew Sutton of the Law Offices of Edward J. Womac Jr. & Associates of New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division D Judge Scott U. Schlegel.
