GRETNA – A Jefferson Parish man alleges he was exposed to dangerous substances while working as a pipe cleaner.

Jose Sanchez filed a suit against Chevron USA Inc., ConocoPhillips Co., Shell Oil Co. LP, Marathon Oil Co., et al. in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 8.

According to the claim, the plaintiff was employed in the 1980s through the late '90s by AMF Tuboscope during which he was required to work around piping that contained radioactive properties. Part of his duties involved cleaning, in which the radioactive scale was caused to become airborne, allegedly causing injuries to the plaintiff. The suit states he was diagnosed with atherosclerotic disease and other medical issues in March.

The defendants are accused of liability for failure to warn the plaintiff of the dangers, failure to properly test for dangerous properties, failure to identify the contaminated piping and careless and negligent practices without regard for the safety of the plaintiff.

The plaintiff is seeking an unspecified amount in damages. He is represented by Jarrett Falcon, Jeremiah Sprague and Timothy J. Falcon of Falcon Law Firm in Marrero. The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.
