GRETNA – Multiple tenants of an apartment claim that the Harvey apartment complex was moldy and caused personal damages.

Taylor Cassilli, individually and on behalf of multiple minors, and Jason Brookings, individually and on behalf of a minor, filed a suit against Summerfield Apartments LLC in the 24th Judicial District Court on June 16.

According to the claim, the plaintiffs, who were tenants at the apartments located at 1500 Lorene Drive in Harvey, were exposed to mold, as well as other substances of a toxic nature, on or around June 16, 2015. The mold and other substances allegedly resulted in the plaintiffs suffering from stomach and respiratory problems, as well as headaches and vomiting.

The defendant is accused of breach of duty of care through failure to properly manage the premises, failure to correct the issues and failure to enact safety measures to protect the residents.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. They are represented by DaShawn Hayes of the Hayes Law Firm in New Orleans. The case has been assigned to Division C Judge June Berry Darrensburg.
