Two individuals allege malfunction elevator at New Orleans hotel caused injuries

NEW ORLEANS – Two individuals claim that they were injured due to a malfunctioning elevator.

Angie Serrano and Nelly Briceno filed a suit against Otis Elevator Co.; Canal Place Borrower LLC, doing business as The Westin New Orleans Canal Place; Interstate Management Co. LLC; Dacia Paz; ABC insurance company; and XYZ insurance company in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Aug. 24.

According to the claim, the plaintiffs were employees of a third party that were working on a contract for Canal Place Borrower. The suit states that the plaintiffs were caused injuries on April 3 when the service elevator that they were using malfunctioned and dropped three floors. The suit states that Briceno broke her leg and vertebrae and Serrano struck her head in the incident.

The defendants are accused of negligence through failure to warn of the hazardous and defective condition and failure to take corrective action.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. They are represented by Mark P. Glago, Jatavian Williams and Katherine E. May of the Glago Law Firm in New Orleans.

The case has been assigned to Division I Judge Piper D. Griffin.
