Residents blame Gates of Manhattan LP for toxic mold exposure

GRETNA – Several individuals are seeking damages over claims that their apartments were infested with toxic mold.

Debbie Matthews and Cleveland Matthews, individually and on behalf of their minor child; Lateshia Huggins, individually and on behalf of her minor children; and Christopher Jackson filed a suit against Gates of Manhattan LP in the 24th Judicial District Court on Sept. 7.

According to the claim, the plaintiffs were leasing the defendant's property . The suit states that the plaintiffs were exposed to unnecessary risk when the building was infested with toxic mold, which they claim made the building uninhabitable and caused them to suffer from health complications.

The defendant is accused of negligence through failing to prevent such incidents from occurring, failing to take the precautions necessary to keep such incidents from happening and overall negligence.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. They are represented by James F. Willeford.

The case has been assigned to Division M Judge Henry G. Sullivan Jr.

The 24th Judicial District Court Case number 764508.
