Medical malpractice 01

NEW ORLEANS – Two individuals are seeking damages following the death of a relative.

Amy S. de la Gardelle and Christine Steele filed a suit against Nigel Girgrah M.D., Ochsner Clinic LLC and Ochsner Clinic Foundation in the Orleans Parish Civil District Court on Sept. 19.

According to the claim, the plaintiffs' decedent, Raymond Steele Sr., visited Girgrah in June 23, 2014, and was given a certain medication after having blood work done. The suit states that after the results from the blood work were returned, the defendant tried to contact the patient and left a voicemail to warn him to stop taking the medication and go to the hospital. The suit states the defendant did not follow up to see if the decedent received the message and that the decedent was diagnosed with end stage rental disease on June 29, 2014. The suit states he died that October.

The defendant is accused of negligence.

The plaintiffs are seeking an unspecified amount in damages. They are represented by T. Carey Wicker III, J. Alex Watkins and Vincent E. Odom of New Orleans.
